The Fresh Air Fund

I had received an email from a really nice lady named Sara asking me if I thought her fund was good enough to post on my blog. After researching the non-profit organization a little bit, I do.

THE FRESH AIR FUND is an independent, not-for-profit agency that has provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Nearly 10,000 New York City children enjoy free Fresh Air Fund programs annually. In 2008, close to 5,000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada. 3,000 children also attended five Fresh Air camps on a 2,300-acre site in Fishkill, New York. The Fund’s year-round camping program serves an additional 2,000 young people each year.

The Fresh Air Fund is accepting applications for counselors for this coming summer of '09. They hire staff members with a wide range in some amazing fields. They are looking for college-aged men and women who love to work with children. They put together this social media news release which explains it all:

They are also always looking for Fresh Air hosts for the summer to open their homes to a child.
If anyone is interested in more information regarding this please feel free to email:
sara@freshair.org .

As you all know, I love helping out children. This program seems like a great thing to do if people want to learn more about other peoples lives, and experience the joys of the world around us.
